Understanding our plans
Our cover is custom-made for the personal cat servants, proud dog people, and everyone else who knows their pet is more than an animal – they’re family.
Treatment for acute illness and injury, this includes but not limited to; Consultations, Medication, Diagnostic investigations, Surgery, Pathology, Radiology, Chronic cover – with pre-authorization and clinical treatment protocol. Additional premium and monthly subsidy is applicable. Hereditary Conditions cover – provided it’s not pre-existing. Supportive Rehabilitation (post surgery only) – subject to pre-approval and treatment protocols. In order to qualify for cover rehabilitation treatment MUST commence WITHIN 2 weeks from an orthopedic surgery and will be limited to a maximum of 6 treatment sessions, not extending beyond 2 months after the surgery date.
- Pre-existing conditions as well as any conditions that arise during any waiting period/condition specific waiting period.
- Boarding Kennels and Catteries.
- Routine Care (de-worming, vaccinations, grooming, flea/tick treatment, prescription diets, etc.)
- Any treatments in connection with pregnancy, birthing and fertility and breeding (any complications suffered as a result as one of these), sterilization, artificial insemination and injuries resulting from breeding. mainstream veterinary science, including but not limited to acupuncture, physiotherapy, homeopathy.
- Hydrotherapy, rehabilitation care other than mentioned in 1.1.2. of the policy wording.
- Annual check up and puppy socialization class: Policy holders can now enjoy the benefit of an annual check up on their pet or a puppy socialization class to the value of R600 per policy year. PawPaw will reimburse the client once an invoice is submitted (vaccinations, deworming and sterilizations is excluded from this benefit).
- Cremation benefit: PawPaw will reimburse the cost of cremation limited to R1000.
Your pet is covered for injury or any unforeseen incidents such as but not limited to;
A Motor vehicle accident, burn or electrocution, fall from an elevated position, near drowning, the actions of another animal such as a cat or dog fight, when Max swallows your child’s toys or your puppy swallows your shoe strings this may require surgical or endoscopic removal, snake bite, an allergic reaction to an insect bite other than tick or flea bites, biliary (tick bite fever / bosluiskoors) is covered as an accident and poisoning.
- Any sickness, disease, infection or any change in a pets health which is not caused by an accidental injury.
- Any invoices submitted more than 60 days after the date of last treatment.
- The costs for any treatments for injuries incurred outside of the Republic of South Africa.
- Any treatment by person/s not registered with the South African Veterinary Council.
- Any allergic reaction to a vaccine or medication.
- Any surgical items that can be used more than once. These are non-chargeable items.
- The costs of any prosthesis, implants or transplantation.
- Any injury caused by negligence. P.UMA will report all abuse to the S.P.C.A

How to claim
Something happened? Follow these steps
Get treatment
Did your pet get injured, or not feeling well. Go to any trusted Vet close to your location and have him/her checked out to see what’s wrong.
Submit a Claim
Once you have been to the Vet, the claim need to be submitted by emailing claims@p-uma.co.za, and their friendly consultants will assist you.
Happy client!
Once the claim has been processed, you have the option of paying the Vet directly, or reimbursing you for Vet costs that you have paid out of your pocket.
